File Under: “Celebrities I Thought Were Dead”

February 6, 2009 · 6 Comments

Not dead yet.

Not dead yet.

Etta James.

I really thought she OD’d on PCP back in ‘68.  Apparently I was wrong.

Not that it matters and not that I care, but she’s got beef with Beyonce and Barack Obama over the singing of “At Last” at the inauguration.  Let me just say for the record that now that I know she’s not dead, I’m most upset that I had to find out about it through some childish rant she had on stage… I mean, c’mon E, don’t be undead like that.

Other celebrities who still haven’t found their way to the grave

-Ted Lange

-Bob Barker

-The Iron Sheik

-Dionne Warwick

All of whom I’ve been shocked to find out are still on this side of the metaphysical world.

I was made to wear, “the asshole hat” during the Super Bowl for exclaiming that I thought Ed McMahon was dead and when asked why, I said, “Well he should be”….

First of, she SHOULD be mad. Everyone else in Cadillac Records (besides Mos, I think) used samples/voice overs from the original people who sang the damn songs which means their estates, their families got fed off those royalties. But what did Beyonce do? She sang Etta’s songs her DAMN SELF which meant Etta got shat upon and Beyonce give PAID… and will continue to do so whereas Ms. James had to suffer through B’s 3 full length music videos during the course of that self-indulgent movie. Shiiiiiit… I thought Etta was dead too until I read the end notes during the movie credits. Hell, if she was dead, she obviously got so upset by this theft of her image and legacy, she rose to haunt us.

And why not have the original sing at the inauguration? They let Aretha’s old ass get up there so sing. Why not let Etta’s old ass sing her own damn song?!
